The education is based on the nationwide law for professionals in geriatric nursing and regulations for education and examination.

Joy and skill in dealing with people, ability to listen, good ability to identify needs, quick comprehension, willingness to cooperate, physical and mental capability are important elegibility for the personal activity.

Target of education and image of the profession

The education in geriatric nursing is to impart the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary for independent and self-responsible care and for the advice and guidance of old people.

For this education goal in mind the training of geriatric nurses include the following tasks:

Process of education

The education lasts for three years and includes 4600 hours. 2100 hours of theoretical lessons will take place at the seminar for elderly care in close coordination with the practical training (2500 hours) and is conducted in various institutions in care for the elderly.
Continuous manual in practice and targeted tutoring by the teaching staff of the seminar support the learning process of trainees.
The training content of the lessons arises from the distribution of hours and of training examination regulations.

The education ends after three years with a state examination which consits of a written part, a practical part and an oral part.

Contract

The trainee concludes an articles of apprenticeship with the promoters of the welfare centers or nursing homes responsible for practical training. But only with the consent of the seminar, fully responsible for the education, will this contract become effective.

Salary

During apprenticeship the trainees get a salary from the promoters of the practical training, provided there are no monetary claims for livelihood under the social law (SGB III) or other similar monetary benefits.
